The Research Writing Process

The main thing that I’ve learned this year about the research writing process is that it’s nowhere near as hard as everyone seems to make it out to be. Yes, it is tedious and it does take quite awhile to get everything completed, but when you sit back and think about it, it really wasn’t all that bad. You do all this stuff for a long time, and then boom! You have a finished research paper and you’re like, wow.. how did that happen?

The most difficult part of the whole ordeal I’ve decided is coming up with a topic that works. It has to be something that’s interesting for you and something that you’ll be able to find at least a little bit of stuff about when you start researching. However, once you get a good idea and start finding articles and things that pertain to your topic, it’s way easy to get the ball rolling.

In order to research well, you need to practice. Not everyone will find it enjoyable, but like any skill, it  needs to be worked on so that you can get better at it. Just a simple wrong wording in the search bar of a web page can bring up a ton of crap that you don’t need. Just by adding or subtracting a few words it gets you exactly where you need to be. Research is like that. You have to be precise, but you’re allowed to put your own slant on anything that you write. That’s what makes it so awesome.
