Autism: Psychological and Learning Effects of Music in Children with Autism

The research for this project will be about autism. In particular, it will focus on what ways and how much music effects the learning and social abilities of children with autism. These children have a very rough time interacting with other people and music may be able to help them (dictionary.com). There has been a little bit of research done on this effect already. Most of this research focuses mainly on just the specific effects of the music. This research paper will be specifically about the effects of the music on autistic children, but also ways that educators can help their students and parents can better help their children to succeed using music therapy.

It is believed that once it is figured out just how much autism and a milder disorder, Asperger Syndrome, is offset with the aid of music therapy. It is possible that with the use of music, things such as language development and social skills will be strengthened in children at an earlier age. The goals will be to give the reader a reasonable background information about the causes and symptoms of autism. It will help anyone unfamiliar with the disorder to understand what it is all about and how they can help a person diagnosed with it. People with autism are quite often misunderstood or thought of as retarded because they do not do things the way “normal” people do them. This research will help shed some light on the world of an autistic person.

This paper will be very valuable to all sorts of people. It will be a help to anyone who already does, or who may in the future have to deal with people with this disorder. The research for this project will come from various sources – mostly from refereed journals, and possibly from interviews with the parents of autistic children. The main focus of the research, however will be how can we help to solve the social and learning problems of the people who suffer from this disorder using the aid of music therapy.
